Aspen,5-6+copyGwen Allen is an art historian who specializes in modern and contemporary art, criticism, and visual culture. Her research focuses on the relationship between art and media and on artists’ publications. Her writings have appeared in Artforum, Art Journal, Umbrella, Performance Research, Art New England, and Vectors: Journal of Culture and Technology in a Dynamic Vernacular. She curated the exhibition “Conceptual Art and the Document” at the Cantor Center for the Arts, Stanford University. She is currently working on an essay about the visual culture of the underground press and on a book about artists’ magazines in the 1960s and 1970s.
