This endowed scholarship was created as an expression of love and friendship for Andrew Sanders by his family, friends, and colleagues at Allbirds. Andrew received his B.A. degree in Art in May of 2020. He passed away in July of 2020 in a cycling accident, doing something he loved. Andrew Sanders had many hopes and dreams of a successful future creating art. He wrote about his dream of helping other artists when he became an established artist himself. As a student at San Francisco State University, he often struggled to find enough money to pay for materials to complete projects. This scholarship is intended to help undergraduate studio art students pay for materials needed for class projects. Andrew "Drew" Sanders was born on August 1, 1996, and grew up in San Jose. Throughout his life, he was known as a connector as he built strong friendships in many different communities. Andrew was most passionate about biking and art, but was also known as a musician, break dancer and photographer. He was a gifted independent artist and his work could be seen throughout the Bay Area as his many peers sported Andrew's clothing and accessory wear. Andrew spent endless hours at SF State's art and print studios. He was known in classes for his dedication to sketch art, while also using his energy to inspire his fellow students. From all who loved Drew, it is their hope that this scholarship will carry forward his energy and allow others like him to pursue their dreams at SF State.

The program is unique in the country for addressing this critical juncture in an emerging artist's career, giving aspiring post-grads opportunities for professional development and a chance to define their practice outside of the academic context.
